Week 1 workshop: Review-Video Games: The Movie
This film focuses on the development of games, including technical aspects, artistic aspects, commercial aspects, and the impact on People's Daily life, culture and society. The film interviewed different game developers and even invited some people who hardly play games to participate in the game experience. For example, when PS4 was just born, it invited a well-known person to participate in the experience. Through the influence of this celebrity, the meaning of the game was amplified, and the meaning of their existence was paid deeper attention by the masses. At the end of the film, the future development trend of the game is also discussed.
As a whole, this film describes the thinking and analysis of games from the perspective of nostalgia and development. From the earliest state of games to today's prosperity, during this period, the commercial value, artistic value, technical content and influence of games on people have developed to different degrees.
Some say that the history of video games began in a small classroom at MIT, with a little game called Space War. Others say it started with Nolan Bushnell, the founder of Atari. At first, it was not a very promising industry, and people's awareness and understanding of video games has not improved very well in a long time. In this film, we show Tomb Raider, Super Mario, God of War, Halo, and many of the game fans are familiar with the beautiful production of games, from the initial rough lines of the picture, to today's beautiful display of rich technical power, all the results are the joint efforts of game developers and people who love games.
These are the good aspects that this film wants to convey to us. Of course, no matter how good a thing is, it can not be perfect. While shining, there are also some worrying hidden dangers. Some parents and experts have mentioned that certain games, by their very nature, convey bad messages such as violence and gambling, which may lead to bad results for teenagers who are unable to distinguish between reality and virtual. Thus, the age rating of the game came into being. Different types of games, there are different age levels, the best way to prevent, is that parents should be based on these reference play age, correctly guide children to play, although it can not be completely avoided, but also to maximize the production of errors.
All in all, in my opinion, this film mainly describes the
artistic value, commercial value and future prospects of games from a layman's
perspective, rather than describing the technical details of game development
from a technical point of view, and tells the past and future of game
development. At this scale, I think it is appropriate to reach out to a wider
audience and convey a positive and passionate view of the future of the games
industry.
